YBCA Theater in San Francisco had a wonderful day with Steve Jobs introducing a slew of new products and services. The event was
streamed live to its Apple products. But in case you missed it, here is a handy guide to all the stuff that happened in the nerd heaven. First off, iOS 4.1 is going to be available from next week for iPhones and iPod Touches. The new operating system will allow your Apple gadget to take High Dynamic Range pictures. Apple seems to be taking a step towards social-media with the introduction of the new feature Game Center, which will allow gamers to network and play multiplayer games. It’s not that Steve Jobs would have stopped at just iOS4.1, but we also got a peek at iOS4.2 which will bring all the 4.1 functionality to the iPad.
New Generation iPod Touch has come one step closer to being iPhone. Well, it still does not have phone facility but the new thinner and meaner Touch now sports dual camera and killer retina display. It also has Face Time for your chatting pleasure along with faster A4 chip and the gyroscope. Pricing for the 32GB and 64GB models has been retained at $299 and $399 level respectively, however, 8GB model has got little price bump to $229. iPod Shuffle and Nanos have also been given decent makeover. Shuffle is available in 5 colors with 15 hours of battery. Its sleeker design is now more functional with voice controls and buttons. This mini 2GB music goodness can be yours for just $49. iPad Nanos have gone hi-tech with a touch screen. It’s
available in seven colors and is up for grabs with price tags of $149 for 8GB and $179 for 16 GB models. All these iPods will be available next week but are already open for pre-ordering.
iTunes too has been revamped with its own new logo. iTunes 10 now features hybrid view which lets you have a peek at album artwork while your library is in the list view. And as if social-networking segment is already not crowded enough, Apple has introduced its own version with the introduction of Ping. This new component of iTunes will display customized Top 10 lists based on your peer group’s music choices. Good luck to you, if you have friends who adore Miley Cyrus or Justin Bieber.
And finally, Apple TV with very dark anti-Apple looks. Yes, the neat futuristic intense black colored device is one fourth of its original size. As rumored, Apple has done away with its internal storage and now the device streams all the contents over the internet. It currently stocks contents from ABC and FOX, but His Apple Holiness Steve Jobs is certain that other studios too will soon “see the light”. The device will be out in about 4 weeks.
Oh phew, You may be an unabashed Apple fanboy or a hater, but you cannot deny the fact that Apple has done it, yet again. And as if all the new offering were not enough to make all the geeks swoon, there was ever-dashing Chris Martin with his new song “Wedding Bells”. Well, if there is Nirvana, then this event was the closest thing. So, what are your views and are you going to pre-order your Apple TV or iPod? Let us know in the comment section.
